Alright guys, this might be boring, sorry if it is, i want to work it up. there are hints right now, slightly obvious, hopefully you'll get something in the next chapters!! :DD
Edward Elric., or known as the Fullmetal Alchemist, leapt off the stairs of the train he spent the last 12 hours on. He groaned, stretching one arm behind his head, relieved that the foreverness of the ride was over. "Ugh, that mission was such a waste." He mumbled irritably. The mission was so simple - capture the criminal that was killing civilians and has also murdered one of the soldiers in the army. Edward was furious most of the time, with the criminal always squeezing from his grasp when he got close. He only caught him on the last day, and it was a total accident. The criminal killed another person and fled form the scene, only to bump into the ticked off Edward. They played cat and mouse for several hours before the criminal was backed onto a high roof, in response, he called Edward short and committed suicide.
'...What a waste of time...' he had thought.
Now he was standing in central. He would have been happy to come back, but he had to report himself to Colonel Roy Mustang. Edward felt even more pissed at the thought of bringing his report, only to have Roy yell at him and make some joke about his height, then hit him across the head and order another pointless mission. Sometimes he thought Mustang gave him the worst missions just to yell at him...Edward started to pace forward, swinging his legs in front of him, stretching the the non-metal one, but hit the metal one on the ground in a tantrum... He had called Roy before boarding the train; he could have lied about when he would be back...but he didn't.
"Wait up brother!" Edward was broken from his thoughts as loud clunking sounded. Al jogged up beside Edward, the sun shining unnaturally bright against the sun. "I guess you feel good to be off the train, it was a long ride." Appearing to not even notice Edward's foul mood.
"Yeah.." He replied, cannoning back into his thoughts. Al looked down at his brother, so strange, when they entered Central he always was in deep though. As if the train rides weren't enough time to doze.
"Hey, look. Why don't you get some lunch before you make the report." Al shouted eagerly, pointing at a restaurant, knowing his brother hadn't eaten at all during the train ride.
"But train station food is so expensive..." Edward growled, but then his stomach shouted in protest, making a rumbling sound. Edward sweat-dropped. "I guess.."
Edward, turned out was indeed hungry. He stuffed himself full, eating half the menu. As the waiter came with the bill, Edward stared at it. "Ohhhh SHIT!" He exclaimed, glaring at the long number. "We don't have that kind of money..!" Edward sighed. Great, another military expense. He payed, and walked from the restaurant, grumbling about how he'll never hear the end of it with Mustang.
Al ran up behind him. "Brother don't be so unhappy all the time." He said as he caught up to his older brother. Edward ignored Al, And just kept walking forward, wondering about what Roy will say to him this time.
"Broootherrr!!" Al whined, poking Ed in the shoulder.
"Ugh...whaaat." Ed swung his head to stare up at his brother.
"You're about to run into a pole!" Ed turned his head, realizing a pole was inches from his face. .'.. And i didnt even notice that?!...' Edward took a few paces back, only to collide into a mother and her child's carriage. The baby screamed and started to sob. The mother, looking quite tired, still managed to glare furiously at Edward.
"Er.. Sorry-- Dont cry little baby..." He said, making a face, but the baby cried louder, and the woman rushed away. A crowd gathered. Edward slumped. "Why is it always me...." He sighed, sweat-dropping.
"It's ok." Al started but Edward was walking away.
"I need a quiet place." He mumbled.
Al heard. "Why not the river? We could rest there for alittle while before seeing Mustang." He suggested. Edward didn't protest against the idea, he just headed to the river. Al ran up ahead, saying hi to everyone passing stranger. '..Why.. Is Al so happy all the time.. he lost his body.. mother.. never even met our father..' Edward thought as he watched Al talk to a man sweeping in front of a small shop.
'.. Im only happy when..' Edward tried to think of times when he felt even the smallest spark of joy in his recent life. The image of Roy's office came into his mind, Mustang, reclining in his chair with that condescending smirk. There was a gleam in his eye as he lectured Edward on his skills, or lack thereof. Edward would say nothing at these times, as he tried to keep a straight face. He could always feel his face warm up, and feel it burn, until what was brewing there would be unleashed once Roy dare mention his stature. His short stature. Edward stuck his tongue out making a 'BLUCK' sound. He was always pissed off when Mustang yelled at him. How could he be happy about it?! He cursed to himself, inaudibly.
Edward trudged pass Al, who was still talking to the man, and headed towards the river, still thinking.
---
Edward stood at the gates of HQ, staring up at it. He knew he would have to face Roy again. He was hours late, when he and Al went to the river he fell asleep. It had to be afternoon by now, though Roy had several hours more to work, or work as in sitting around talking to pretty ladies on the phone. Edward made a face. Al, who stood only a few feet away, said in his always cheery voice. "Alright, lets goo...- Ed?" Realizing Edward was pacing away. Al ran after him.
"Wait brother- where are you going?"
Ed turned around, his eyes glittering angrily. "I don't want to face Mustang right now." But Al grabbed him by the shoulders. "Hes expecting us, like, right now!"
Edward scowled. "Doesn't mean i HAVE to see him." he growled. But he didn't fight as Al pushed him through the gate and towards the door. Havoc stood near the doors, supposedly on guard duty, but was talking to a pretty lady instead. He turned when he saw Edward.
"Ed, Mustang was expecting you hours ago!" he shouted, the turned away. Edward grumbled, just what he needed. He paced through the halls of HQ. Roy's office was several flights up. But not wanting to take the stairs, Edward made his own right there, with of course his alchemy. Another soldier stared at him, one brow raised. Edward just continued marching up the make shift stairs.
"Brother, this isn't necessary.." Al stuttered, following him. Edward opened onto the hall that Roy's office was on, and looked back at the stairs, he slammed his hands onto the ground and they all turned back to there normal form. Edward shot a glance at Al before heading towards Roy's door. Hawkeye stood outside of it. She looked at Edward as he passed, she blinked. "Mustang was expecting--" Edward cut her off.
"Yeah, yeah. I know, like, hours ago, right." He looked at Hawkeye evenly, then violently kicked the door open with his metal foot. The sound of metal-on-metal vibrated throughout the building as Edward stepped in. Al stayed outside with Hawkeye.
Edward approached the desk mustang sat at. The chair turned and Roy sat calmly, but his eyes were glittering. "Hello Edward." He said, in a voice that almost mocking.
"Yeah yeah get it over with." Edward groaned, turning away and plopping rudely onto the couch that sat awkwardly in the room. He slumped down and sprawled his legs out as if it was his couch. Roy, amused as always, leaned forward.
"So Edward, I heard you failed." Edward winced inwardly. Like he needed to be told that. But Mustang continued. "First, it takes you 8 days to catch a simple criminal, then when you get close enough to get him, he kills himself, and now, you're several hours late. And the military only moments ago got this bill from a train station restaurant for...340$...Care to explain?" Roy said, taking out the bill and tossing it at Edward. It floated onto his lap; he scowled. "First, that was a fast criminal. And the train ride took 12 hours!"
Roy interrupted. "Oh yes, because 12 hours so affects 8 days." He said, his eyes looking at him in a teasing glare. Edward growled. "And Al wanted to go to the restaurant!" Blaming his brother. Great. He hated how this bastard could make him say things he always regretted.
Roy flopped back into his chair. "So a hollow metal case can suddenly eat now?" He asked. Edward turned his head away, his face slightly hot. Mustang sighed. "You know, maybe you need a few days of break, then the next mission I give wont be an epic failure."
Edward hadn't expected this. He turned his head back "Days off?" he asked questioningly.
"Yes, that's what I said. Or are your ears made of metal too?"
Edward liked the sound of a break...Maybe he could do some research. Roy smiled mockingly, almost reading Edwards's thoughts. "And don't do research. Do anything fun, but don't work. Hell, I don't care if you sleep the entire time, but nothing that will affect your brain." Roy leaned forward. "Deal?" He asked simply.
Edward glared. Of course there was a catch to the offer. "Fine." Ed growled through gritted teeth.
Roy grinned. "Now who said that, was it you??" He squinted as if trying to see a bug as he stared at Edward. Who at once, leapt up into the air.
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING SO SMALL THEY CAN ONLY BE SEEN BY A MAGNIFYING GLASS?!" He flailed, falling onto his face. Roy chuckled and leaned back into his chair as Edward picked himself up. "Your break will last 7 days. When times up, I want you in this office, 10 A.M. sharp, for your new mission." He turned his chair away.
"Dismissed, Fullmetal."
